HH In Focus – VMCH Retirement Living Precinct

17/06/2022 - Celebration -

The Human Habitats team is pleased to celebrate the issuance of a permit for VMCH’s premium retirement living precinct in Studley Park, Kew. The project comprises 108 luxury apartments and sees the restoration and adaptive re-use of three significant heritage buildings on the site. A new public café near the iconic Whitty House will activate the corner of the site and engage the local community in this spectacular development.

The unique approach undertaken by VMCH began with a carefully developed set of design principles and a highly competitive architectural design competition. Early engagement with Council’s planning and urban design departments aided in the shaping of the design. Council’s Principal Planner and Urban Designer showed strong support for the project. Council’s Urban Designer described the project as:

“meticulously crafted and thoughtfully and expertly executed to suit the site and locale”

The design team comprised of Woods Bagot and Oculus have designed a space that creates a new standard for a retirement living community, working in harmony with the surrounding neighbourhood. The project team engaged extensively with Council and the local community to progressively refine the scheme in response to feedback.

Human Habitats is proud to have played a role in securing this landmark planning approval (6 months ahead of program) in concert with the client and project team. We look forward to assisting VMCH to realise their vision.
